Laser Hair Removal

There are a number of methods that can be used to remove hair. It used to be that the only methods that people could even consider were shaving and waxing. Now though there are more modern methods that can get the job done quicker and in a way that helps to keep it from growing back as quickly. One such method is laser hair removal.

What Is It?

This technology has been around for a few years now. It uses an intense, pulsating beam of light – a laser – to remove the hair from the follicle. The beam of light will travel through the skin and directly into the follicle. The process sounds painful – but most people agree that it isn’t much worse than waxing.

Who Can Use It?

There are different types of lasers that can be used – but they all work the same way. Unfortunately this process can only be done on people with the right skin and hair color. Anyone who has naturally dark skin or has recently tanned (even a sunless tan) cannot or should not use laser removal to get rid of the hair.

The darker the skin and the lighter the hair the harder it is for the beam to reach the follicle. Instead it will focus on the first dark spot it sees – your skin. This can cause scarring, blisters, and other damage to the skin.

How Much Does It Cost?

This process has been around for quite some time – but it is still expensive to use. Most dermatologists will charge anywhere between $200 to $600 or more for each session. This price will be dependent upon the amount of hair and how hard it is to remove. However, most people think it is worth it because it will dramatically decrease the hair growth. For some people it will prevent it from growing back at all.

Just remember that one session is usually not enough to remove everything in one area. The hair does not always grow all at one time and the specialist has to wait until it is long enough to remove it. Call for a consultation before you make any final decisions.
